Throughout December we announced that we would be donating £1,000 to charity instead of posting Christmas cards. We reached out to you on Facebook and Twitter and asked for you to nominate your favourite charity. Your response has been phenomenal. We’ve reached over 53,000 people and have received a grand total of 1,224 nominations for brilliant charities.
The winning charity is Veterans in Action – VIA. The Chief Operations Officer of Veterans in Action, Billy MacLeod has thanked us for our £1,000 donation.
“Thanks to Stevenswood for the prize of £1,000. The funds will be put towards our newest project called Veterans Healthy Living which takes a long term view at veterans and their families’ mental health and wellbeing. Once again many thanks for the support. It means a lot to Veterans in Action and indeed the veterans we will help well into the future.”
Our £1,000 donation will directly support the Veterans in Action ALIVE Program: a Healthy Living Project which gives veterans the space to feel safe and concentrate on tasks which have proven physical and mental health benefits. Using a variety of centre-based projects, exercise and expeditions, VIA supports military veterans overcome difficulties they face after returning from war. You can see further details on the Healthy Living Project here).
The £1,000 donation will help provide:
- A fully equipped gym with access to a personal trainer, boxing club and sports therapy.
- A kitchen where veterans are taught nutrition and cooking on a budget.
- Individual training programmes and physiotherapy to support injuries.
- Challenging events and expeditions for veterans and their families including bush craft, canoeing, expedition cooking, setting up camp, first aid, off road driving and navigation.
We’d like to thank you all for your nominations and sharing the campaign to your friends and families.
